4-Day Tangier to Marrakech Desert Tour via Merzouga

Your four-day journey begins with pickup from Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, Tangier port, your hotel or another agreed meeting point. Depending on your starting time, a brief stop can be arranged around Tangier before leaving the coast and heading toward Tetouan. The road then follows the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen. Spend time walking through the blue-painted medina, passing small squares, local shops and hillside lanes. Because this is a compact itinerary, the Chefchaouen visit is focused rather than a full-day stay. Continue south toward Volubilis, where you can walk among Roman columns, residential ruins, arches and preserved mosaic floors. The next stop is Meknes. Leave Fes early in the morning and begin the journey toward the Sahara through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Barbary macaques may sometimes be seen in this area, although wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The route passes mountain villages and open landscapes before reaching Midelt, where a lunch stop can be arranged. After lunch, continue through the Tizi n’Talghomt Pass and descend toward the Ziz Valley. Pause at a viewpoint overlooking palm groves, villages and oasis settlements. Pass through Errachidia and Erfoud before arriving in Merzouga in the late afternoon. At the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, meet your camel caravan and ride across the sand as the sun begins to set. The road then passes desert settlements, palm groves and rocky plateaus before reaching Tinghir and Todra Gorge. Walk beneath the high limestone cliffs and spend time beside the river. Lunch can be arranged in the gorge or in Tinghir. In the afternoon, continue toward Dades Valley. The route passes cultivated fields, traditional villages, kasbahs and unusual rock formations. When time allows, a panoramic stop can be made near Taourirt Kasbah or one of the local film studios. The main visit of the day is Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village built with traditional earthen architecture. Walk through the ksar, follow its narrow passages and take in the views across the surrounding valley. A local guide can be arranged at an additional cost. After lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Several stops can be made for mountain views, photographs and short breaks.
